First Snow On My Tipi In Vermont

Tuesday October 13, 2009 First snow in Vermont this fall. I like the way the tipi looks with snow! The stone stove is working great and I bought a nice cord of firewood. I still have to buy more, but it is a start. The radiant heat from the stones last a long time.
I added a 10 x 10 addition on the front of the tipi for Earl and for some storage space for wood. When Earl moves in all the stuff in his stall, will be gone! I have been using the space for work materials.
The temporary shelter we put up this summer is being taken down.
I love my tipi and it feels like home!

I Built A Stone Stove

I wanted the tipi warm this winter. I have been getting ready for snow fall. We had our first frost a few days ago! I built a stove made out of stone. It has a steel plate in front for cooking. I knew winter here in Vermont would bee too cold, for an open fire. The stone in the prototype held heat for 24 hours after the fire was out.

First Tipi Fire!

September 5, 2009
First fire in the tipi! I felt right at home.
I spent part of the night there. It is NOT ready for winter yet! I woke up cold and went back to the farm house... I still have a lot to do before winter. I bought a fire extinguisher and keep jugs of water on hand.

Earl's Surprise or How I Fixed My Mini Horse Halter...

Earl's halter was rubbing his face. So it would be more comfortable for him, I fixed it with fur from an old sheep skin coat. We like to recycle.

Earl does not wear his halter all the time. I never turn him out to pasture in a halter. He comes when called, he knows his name. We do not give Earl treats either, just LOTs of LOVE! He does get a wee bit of grain every day we give daily wormer too.

The halter is Earl's second aniversery present from me. I wonder what he is making me...
